What is stone Restoration?
​Restoration of stone is the restoring of worn stone that is dull, scratched, cracking, stained or pitted back to the state in which is was installed.  The optimal method is mechanical abrasion know as diamond grinding.  Others may require us to alter the stone's surface to meet their needs, in some cases an owner may desire a less polished surface which would require honing or to change a honed finish to a more polished/high gloss look.

What is involved in Stone Restoration?
Restoration of polished marble or natural stone involves the removal of scratches and/or damage from the surface of the stone by means of mechanical abrasion.  This is also known as diamond grinding.

Natural stone reflects light and does not need a topical coating or wax to achieve this desired finish.  It only needs a series of diamond grits used in the proper order by a master technician who is experienced in their use.  This followed by a careful polishing technique that can only be learned from experience.

Restoration of a honed finish involves using a series of diamond abrasives until the desired finish is achieved.  As you can see, the restoration of each separate stone surface will involve several different methods and techniques.  A restoration professional will also take care to protect the surrounding surfaces from damage.

Honing - to remove minor scratches and wear from everyday foot traffic
Grinding - to remove deep scratches and lippage (uneven tile edges)
Polishing - to give marble or natural stone any level of shine you desire and enhances the veining in marble
Sealing - to reduce staining an impregnating sealer is applied
Color Enhancing - the use of penetrating sealers/impregnators formulated to enhance or enrich the color of your stone
Filling Holes - some stone is prone pitting, we will color matched, akemi fill and blend holes to your existing flooring
Modify Stone Finish - a stone's finish can be changed, a honed finish can be changed to a polished finish or polished to honed
Stripping - removal of coatings that can block a stone's ability to breathe which causes spalling when the stone cracks, pop and shale
Tile & Grout Cleaning - removal of dirt and stains from tiles and grout using commercial machines with ability to deep down scrub clean
